Rolling Shutter Effect
Many of today's smartphones (like the iPhone) use what is called a rolling shutter in their cameras. This means that they capture the image similar to a scanner, recording the image as it hits the sensor from left to right. It's done to save on processing power for low end devices. This results in some interesting effects when an object is moving faster than the image capture is happening, and has made it's way into some videos (since the smartphones use the same image sensor for stills as they do videos).

How I Use My iPad
So if any of you follow my Twitter, you'll know that when the iPad came out I resolutely mocked it. "A netbook that can't multitask, can't print, can't do x and costs $500?!," I said. And don't even get me started on that horrid name. The next generation will be called the Max-iPad, no matter what Apple does. Well call me a reformist. After playing with a friends off and on, I broke down and got one. Of course this is after a month long wait while it was on back-order. Once I received it I loaded it to the hilt with goodies. I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and I thought I would blog about how I use it, both professionally and for entertainment. To start off on a serious note, let's take a look at the non-game apps.
NetSuite: Automating Inventory Worksheets with iMacros
Part of my daily job is working on making my company's ERP NetSuite conform to our end goals. Often this involves a hammer and strings of cursing. I thought I would blog some of my solutions that I post to the NetSuite User Group in case someone is searching around for tips and can't get inside that forum.
One of the most daunting tasks, and obscene oversights on NetSuite's part, is manual inventory adjustments. Apparently no one thought that, when doing an annual inventory count, that large numbers of inventory counts would need to be imported. So it's currently unavailable to do so. This means manually (and correctly) typing in an inventory adjustment for every single item that needs to be changed. For companies like mine that have 20,875 SKUs at last count, that's a whole lot of typing and an error rate of 4% (average) means 835 errors. Too many, too costly.
Behind the Scenes at Scentsy | Modern Companies Blog
I blogged this over at my work's page but I think some of these pictures are really cool. Then again I'm an AV nerd (as well as other genres of nerdiness) so seeing what it takes to produce a keynote like this is pretty neat.
The Rude Pundit: Immigrants and Islam
Oh man I love this guy. Blunt and to the point.
And if you really think that the growing Muslim population is gonna bring Sharia law to America, then you should probably stop trying to create laws against things like gay marriage based on your Bible and get on board with the separation of church and state. 'Cause, see, that works for all faiths, not just the ones you choose.
Tunnel Network Under Rochester, England

I love these sorts of photo essays documenting a subterranean or abandoned tunnel works. It always amazes me to see the things that lie underfoot.
FarmVille Limited Edition Hollyhocks Crop
I added the newest limited edition masterable crop to my Farmville Profit Chart tonight. I hope that this limited edition but masterable thing doesn't stick around for long. It's challenging enough to get masteries done, certainly when they are only in the market for 2 weeks. This one will be gone August 12, so make sure you start working on it now!
